In this image i created a layered background using a scanned drawing, I experimented with different filters and levels of saturation which resulted in this uniquely coloured drawing layered to the side of the face. I experimented with the tool Paint and coloured in the hair and lips. I also brought up the hue and saturation to really bring out the colours on her face. This image overall gives a modern spin on the traditional Indian Holi culture.
This video tutorial shows how I created this image, I used various filters including liquify and layered pictures on each other. I show how to create this unique background which blends well with the main focus in this image. In this Photoshop image I used different filters on different areas on the face. To select specific areas I used the Lasso tool to carefully select parts. I also experimented with layering images and changing the opacity on different layers.
Photoshop is a great software to explore different techniques in making an interesting background. Starting a Photoshop artwork, you need to start by creating a background. Backgrounds can range from a simple coloured fill layer to an elaborate hand-drawn scanned image. This video shows you how to create an eye-catching background using a hand-drawn scanned drawing and also using different tools on Photoshop.
“A festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil and a celebration of the arrival of spring and harvests to come. It’s the festival of colours, emotions, and happiness. And what better way to express yourself than with the vibrant colours of the rainbow?” — http://www.holifestival.org/significance-of-holi.html “This festival creates unity amongst everyone” — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaysqwFoVOE. They believe in unity and the power of good over evil. The colour and body art represent all the beliefs they stand for. They use local resources to create the paints, using natural powdered pigments mixed with water that turns into paint. Previously they used dried flowers and ground them up to create a powder that when mixed with water created a paint. All the pigments and paints are local and easy to make and use this art practice is done collaboratively, it is a very harmonious event that brings everyone together. The festival is celebrated amongst villages in India and everyone in the villages are expected to participate. My body artworks were inspired by the Holi Festival that is taken place in India, it is the Festival of good over evil consisting of throwing coloured pigments on everyone taking part in the festival. Although it was hard to create the pigments as vibrant as the ones they use in the festival, I think the artworks turned out well considering the resources I had. Here is an example of one of my body artworks without any photoshop: I used eyeshadows for the pigments and added false eyelashes to give off a great impact on the eyes. I think i gave a modern spin on the traditional idea of the Holi festival. |
