They believe in unity and the power of good over evil. The colour and body art represent all the beliefs they stand for. They use local resources to create the paints, using natural powdered pigments mixed with water that turns into paint. Previously they used dried flowers and ground them up to create a powder that when mixed with water created a paint. All the pigments and paints are local and easy to make and use this art practice is done collaboratively, it is a very harmonious event that brings everyone together. The festival is celebrated amongst villages in India and everyone in the villages are expected to participate.
